Update to my post reviewing 10 online photoshop style image editing applications: Photoshop.com, Aviary, Sumopaint, splashup, pixlr, 72photos and simpler touchup style tools: FotoFlexer, pixer.us, PicMagick, Picnik.
In addition to the tools mentioned in the previous review we now have Pixlr Express which, as the name suggests, is a cut down version of Pixlr.
At first, using Firefox 3.5 on Ubuntu, I couldn’t get this version to work properly but a reload appears to have fixed it so I’m putting that down to a glitch with Adobe’s Flash (the platform these sites are usually built on). Overall I found it to be very responsive, quick for up and downloads, intuitive interface and providing the basics needed.
I didn’t like the default closed nature of the toolboxes (left menubar expanders) but other than that my short test whilst prepping the image for this post went smoothly and did everything expected. As the full pixlr is a Photoshop-like app this basic version fits well for those who just want to crop, resize, recolour and the like.
Well done to the pixlr team.
Oh, and if you missed it, Google have acquired Picnik.
